Mass Candle-Lighting Ceremony Marks HM The Queen’s Birthday

BANGKOK, Aug 12 A sea of candlelight and fireworks lit the sky over Bangkok's Sanam Luang Wednesday evening to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 77th birthday and to offer blessings for the Queen.

Thousands of Thais thronged to Sanam Luang ceremonial ground, where the mass candle-lighting ceremony was held to pray for the Queen on her birthday and to express their loyalty.

Presiding over the ceremony, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on behalf of cabinet members, civil servants and all Thais that the Thai people were pleased to gather here to express their well wishes to the beloved Queen.

Meanwhile, the event was joined by Thai people across the country at 7.29 pm, the auspicious moment when the kingdom basked in the glow of lit candles at home or at designated venues in their provinces countrywide.

Apart from the mass candle-lighting ceremony, there were cultural shows and art performances countrywide to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. (TNA) 

 

 

 

Pattaya, 13 August,[Pattaya Daily News]: Yesterday, 12th August 2009, at 5.00 pm, Mr. Ittipon Khunplem, Pattaya City Mayor, led all government officials, immigration police officers, 13 schools under Pattaya City, as well as foreign visitors and businesses, totaling over 2.000 people, in a parade along the beach road. All were dressed in blue and carried candles and flowers to the Pattaya ground at the Bali Hai pier in order to place the items in front of the picture of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on her birthday.

At 8.00 pm, Mr. Ittipol Khunplem led the crowd in wishing Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the beloved of the Thai people, all the very best with a beautiful display of 300 fireworks. The public lit their candles and placed their jasmine flowers in front of Her Majesty’s photograph after singing the national anthem together.

At 8.00 pm, Mr. Ittipol Khunplem led the crowd in wishing Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the beloved of the Thai people, all the very best with a beautiful display of 300 fireworks. The public lit their candles and placed their jasmine flowers in front of Her Majesty’s photograph after singing the national anthem together.
