PATTAYA- May 23, 2014, [Pattaya Daily News]; Mr Danesh Supornsahasrungsi, The President Advisor disclosed that after the declaration of martial law a few days ago the situation began to affect the tourism industry in particular the group of Russian tourists and Mice or Seminar Groups. The Russian market lost more than 30% while the Asian market also begins to get affected.

This applies to organizations both the state and private sectors due to uncertainty on the government function part. While other sensitive groups of tourists to the Asian market such as Korea, Japan or Taiwan have announced travel warnings to Thailand as well.

This main reason should be because of the major insurance companies that have cut back the insurance for the travelers which adds to their worries. The President advised that the situation remains uncertainty at the moment. The only thing is the operators should help themselves to find other alternatives by focusing on the domestic market. For instance, they could find additional events or interest group to ‘Pattaya Grand Sale 2014’ project in cooperation with Pattaya City and tourism industry that will be started in this coming June 2014.
