Pattaya- On 24 February 2008, at 1am, Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwan Oun-anan, of the Tourist Police, and his volunteer police team, were doing an inspection of Walking Street. While walking around the area, they observed Mr. Sarawut Thongkow (25), address 58/Tanow Road, Bangkok behaving suspiciously. They checked his pockets and found what appeared to be thirty-nine yah-bah tablets in a drinking straw; and a white powder which appeared to be heroin, packed in three two inch long drinking straws. All of the illicit substances were hidden in a cigarette pack.

Police arrested the suspect. Mr. Sarawut claimed that the “ya-bah” and “heroin” were actually fake. He said he made them from flour and sold the “ya-bah” tablets for three hundred baht apiece; and the “heroin” for five hundred baht per tablet.

Mr. Sarawut assured the police that he had been doing this for a long time and made a lot of money from his business. Police are not so sure that the drugs are fake, as they look very convincing. They’ll send the “drugs” to the lab for testing. Mr. Sarawut was charged with possessing illegal drugs with intent to sell.
