Pattaya, 17 May 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 9.30 a.m. Police Lieutenant Colonel Winai Hoh-rien (Banglamung Police Investigator) was informed of a house fire in Aung-kaui Shipyard in Naklua.

The police squad, fire department and disaster relief team rushed to the scene along with ten fire trucks.

When the rescue team arrived at the scene, they saw a row of ten shacks burned uncontrollably, an officer described.
A fireman said hundreds of people living in the area took their belongings and vacated their shacks after they were alert of the fire.

Approximately 30 minutes later, the fire brigades extinguished the fire which consequently burned down eight shacks, two large ships and other properties.

There was a long line of traffic jam along the side-street as curious motorcycles, cars and other vehicles stopped to catch a glimpse of the incident, an officer said.

The shipyard owner, Sompong Jamjarern, 46 said the fire broke out from the first shack nearest to the sea and spread to the subsequent houses.

Based on their preliminary investigation, the police believed that the cause of fire is the electrical short circuit.

However the police and the forensic team in Centre 2, Chonburi will continue their investigation to accurately determine the cause of fire.
