Mafia Man Caught Collecting Money From Motorbike Taxies In Pattaya

The specific unit of Amphur Banglamung arrested a mafia member who was collecting protection money from motorbike taxies in Pattaya. He was arrested after an eyewitness reported him to the police because he had violated the policy of The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

PATTAYA – August 8, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; Mr. Phongsathit Pijjanan (Deputy District Chief of the Prevention and Suppression Division), the head of specific unit of Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province together with forces of volunteers planned to arrest Mr. Pratheep Nongkha, aged 40, at L.K. motorbike taxi terminal near Royal City Condominium, Yen Sabai T-Junction, south Pattaya.


The officers had received a complaint from an eyewitnesses that said Mr. Pratheep acted like he worked for the mafia and was collecting protection money and a fee from each motorbike taxi of 1,500 THB per month. When Mr. Pratheep turned up the officers searched him they found he was carrying a short pocket knife which they kept for evidence. Then the officers search his silver bronze Toyota Vios car, license number Chor Phor 3015 Bangkok and found an accounting book of the name of many victims which was also kept for evidence.


Mr. Pratheep confessed that he was ordered by “Jeh Sao” (didn’t know her first name and surname), who is an owner of the local motorbike taxi terminals to go and collect money from each motorbike taxi driver of a 1,000 THB per month. There are 6 terminals with a total of 29 motorbike taxies and for the motorbike taxies that had just started riding they would be charged 1,500 THB per month. Besides, there are additional 60 motorbike taxi drivers that have registered at Pattaya city hall.

Initially, the officers detained Mr. Pratheep to be a witness before magnifying the results to follow up and arrest the manipulator (instigator) to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
