The traditional Thai dress contest was the main event on stage for the night, with 20 ladies parading their traditional Thai dresses and apparel down the catwalk, some in 3-4 inch platform shoes for some extra height. For the final 5 women there was a question and answer section to the contest to help the judges pick the winners. The competition was very close; however in the end Miss Pitchaya Keawtongkum was the winner in a tight contest, the runner-up extraordinarily was her sister Miss Pituporn Keawthongkum. At the conclusion of the event some of the ladies went down to the beach to place their Kratongs in the sea.

Many officials from city hall and some major Thai businessmen were present during the festivities for the night, notably the Mayor of Pattaya Mr Itthipol Khun-pluem. All seemed to enjoy the events on display, partaking in the placing of Kratongs in some water that was setup at the front of the catwalk during the Traditional Thai dress contests.

During and after the festival events people both local and foreign got the chance to place their purchased Kratongs into the sea, both along the beach and out on the 2 floating platforms set up either side of “Bali Hai Pier”. At the conclusion of the night hundreds of Kratongs could be seen lining the beach, due to the strong onshore winds that were unfortunately present on the night.

Amongst the various activities and entertainment their was also the spectacular fireworks display, set up on the shore line to the side of the pier. Although not quite as stunning as previous years it was still a delightful sight to see on a beautiful Pattaya night. Thanks to careful planning by all the organisers and backstage staff, the events scheduled for the night went without error or delay, making Loy Kratong 2009 at the “Bali Hai Pier” a truly spectacular night to remember for the hundreds of people that decided to attend.
