On 13 December 2007, at 12:20am, Mr. Chaiyan Watcha, Deputy Chief of Nong Yai District, allegedly, shot his girlfriend, Mrs. Janya Nakbenja (42), who sells automobile and motorbike legal stickers from the Banglamung branch of the Chonburi Land Transport Office. Mrs. Janya was fatally shot while having a conversation with Mr. Phusit Watsri (44), her new boyfriend. He is a construction contractor and apartment owner in Soi Nernplubwan. The couple was sitting in Mr. Phusit’s silver bronze Chevrolet Optra Van, license 4000, Chonburi.
The shooting occurred at the car park of Naklua Public Park, near Wat Jitaphawan College. Mr. Phusit pulled out an eleven mm. gun to shoot back, but the shooter had already escaped. Mr. Phusit took Mrs. Janya to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, but she was dead on arrival.

The apparent motive for the shooting was that Deputy Chief Chaiyan, who is married, was upset and jealous over the fact that Mrs. Janya was seeing Mr. Phusit. Although his wife learned that Mr. Chaiyan was seeing Mrs. Janya, he still continued to see her. Mrs. Janya was also married. Recently, Mrs. Janya was harassed by Mr. Chaiyan’s wife and decided to end her affair with him. About five months ago, Mrs. Janya started seeing Mr. Phusit and that made Mr. Chaiyan very angry; leading him to, allegedly, fatally shoot Mrs. Janya in front of Mr. Phusit, as the two of them sat in the car.

Later that day, at 3:30pm, police officials informed reporters that arrest warrant number 1319/2007, dated 13 December 2007, was issued by the Pattaya Court. Mr. Chaiyan is charged with premeditated murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm with bullets. Police investigators proceeded to arrest Mr. Chaiyan at his residence in Nong Yai District, Chonburi, but could not find him. It’s assumed he is hiding out somewhere. Police have notified Mr. Prakit Jojanadelok, Sheriff of Nong Yai District about the arrest warrant for Mr. Chaiyan. It is hoped that the suspect will promptly surrender to the police.
