Thai people take part in many different activities during Song Kran such as making merit, making donations and paying respect to their elders, but the most popular activity that most people know about is splashing water on each other. In addition, April 13th is also national elder person day and April 15th is family day.
Song Kran tradition happens in different areas on different dates ; Pattaya Song Kran festival takes place from 18th -20th of April because in the East of Thailand Song Kran is from the 16th -20th April. Also Song Kran is known as “Wan Lai”. This year, Pattaya Song Kran celebrations will take place from the 16th -20th April at Lan Pho Na Klua Park and Wat Chai Mongkol temple. Also there will be a lot of interesting activities for Thais and foreigners.
In addition, “Wan Lai” in Chon Buri takes place at Bang Saen beach and the Healthy park in Si Racha. “Wan Lai” in Bang Saen will be held from the 16th -17th April where there will be a sand castle contest. Meanwhile “Wan Lai” in Si Racha will be held from the 19th -21st April and there will be lots interesting activities such as parades, Thai traditional plays, Thai massage, Thai music performances and Thai traditional performances.
However Song Kran has changed over the years and some people have been molested and many people act and do dangerous things which has destroyed the good image of the Thai tradition.
