Bang Suan, the 5th of March 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Chon-Buri Police Superintendent General Sukitti Sawaikieat invited Mr. Prasith Jaetinai [42] a local refrigerator repairman in the Bang Suan region, to attend the Chon-Buri police station. Mr. Jaetinai recently erected a sign in front of his residence at Soi-9 and the corner of Setthakij Road, Bang Suan. The sign is reportedly a protest against unfair and inaccurate politically motivated reporting by the Thai television media corporations, namely channels 3, 5 and 7.

Gen. Sawaikieat requested Mr. Jaetinai proceed to the police station in Chon-Buri so that he may record a statement as to the mans intentions and motivations behind the erection of the sign. The 1.5m2 sign has been fixed over an existing billboard with neon lights in place for illumination at night-time.

Mr. Jaetinai explained that he believed the three Thai media channels were only interested in their own self promotion and government aligned agenda’s. Further stating, they needed to focus on reporting the news and current events accurately without being influenced by personal or business motivated forces. Mr. Jaetinai revealed that he has erected the sign in a show of protest against the biased media outlets, wishing to voice his opinion to the public as he believes is his right.

Gen. Sawaikieat recorded Mr. Jaetinai’s statement in case the three television networks in question decide to prosecute Mr. Jaetinai for his actions.

Note: Thai media is renowned for its one sided politically motivated nature. Over the course of the past few years, political tensions have been on the rise and yet the Thai  media, particularly the television stations,  are consistently reporting inaccurate and politically motivated news to suit their own government aligned agendas.

It is pleasing to see a local hardworking Thai citizen stand-up and fight against the media giants, although it will be interesting to see how this situation evolves now that it has reached a wider audience.
