Loan Shark Gang Arrested in Pattaya

Gang of loan sharks who were ordered by a Mr. Hua to collect an outstanding interest payment of 4,000 THB a day broke into a house and tried to take the owners belongings but were arrested by police.

SATTAHIP – June 3, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1.30 p.m. Mr. Phawat Lertmookda (Sattahip sheriff, Chonburi province) together with Pol.Col. Chonnaphat Nawalak (Superintendent of Sattahip police station), Captain Khomphan Ouppalanon (Director of Operations and News Division, Sattahip Naval Base), Pol.Lt.Col. Niphon Pomsanarm (Deputy Superintendent), forces of administrative officers, police and sailors together made a statement about the arrest of a loan shark gang that charged extremely high interest. There were 7 defendants which consisted of Mr. Wetchayan Lakthong, aged 35, Mr. Torsak Nikornphon, aged 25, Mr. Thanongsak Thiwakalin, aged 34, Mr. Suthat Oraluek, aged 29, Mr. Arinan Nanchaikhruea, aged 30, Mr. Wichai Lakthong, aged 31 and Mr. Santikul, aged 34, with the allegations of invading other people’s houses without permission, operating a lending business without permission and charging higher interest rate than defined by the law, carrying guns and ammunition in public place without permission. The officers also seized a Ruger gun size 9 mm,15 bullets , 1 account book of loan sharks, 1 pair of bolt croppers and 2 pick-up trucks.

Pol.Lt.Col. Niphon Pomsanarm (Deputy Superintendent) revealed that he was notified by a Miss Janphen Rachkaew, the housekeeper of house no.28/187 Moo 5 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, that there were 7 men who got out of 2 pick-up trucks and used a pair of bolt croppers to cut the lock off her front gate and pried her front door open so they could take her property. Therefore Pol.Lt.Col. Niphon Pomsanarm coordinated with the administrative officers and the sailors to mobilize forces of officers to arrest the 7 culprits.

Initially, all 7 defendants confessed that they were loan sharks and Mr. Hua (a millionaire in Pattaya city) was the big capitalist and he ordered them to collect the debt that Mrs. Banjerd Thongkon (the house owner and the debtor) had borrowed. She had borrowed 200,000 THB from Mr. Hua and he charged her 4,000 THB a day interest a total of 120,000 THB per month but because she was not home the 7 men were ordered to take her property to compensate for the interest. There had already been 3 victims so the police detained all of the defendants and sent them to the inquiry official to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
