Lightning strike kills 3 fisher men injuring 1

4 men who were sheltering from a thunderstorm inside a cottage next to a paddy field were stuck by lightning as they played on their phones whilst waiting for the storm to pass, 3 of the men were killed and 1 was severely injured.

Rayong-May 6, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 15.00 pm. Pol.Lt.Col.Anurak Thongto- special investigation inspector of Bankhai police station- was notified that lightning had struck a cottage beside a paddy field. There were 2 deaths and 2 severely injured but 1 of the injured died on the way to Bankhai hospital. Pol.Col.Athik Laphanuphat- superintendent of Bankhai police station- was accompanied with Mr.Pramote Notmitr-Chief Executive of the SAO (Subdistrict Administrative Organization)-, Mr.Sanit Putthasung-head of SAO local congress- to investigate the scene. At the scene was a cottage next to a paddy field, where they found a body identified as Mr.Supphachok Prajuabsuk who had been struck by lightning and was killed instantly. In the cottage they found another body identified as Mr.Chatchapol Na-in. The officers also found a Samsung smartphone which was on and burnt, an iphone 4 with its charging cable and a fishing rod which were all about 200 meters from the scene and fishing rod.

The 4 men had been fishing but when it started to rain they took shelter in the cottage which they assumed was Mr.Supphachok’s. It’s expected that they were talking on their phones or listening to music when the thunderbolt struck the cottage. Mr.Supphachok was thrown out the cottage and died suddenly and Mr Chatchapol died instantly inside. Mr Witthaya Komkham and Mr Winai Wongmaneesai had been sent to Bankhai Hospital. Unfortunately Mr Witthaya later died.
