LGBT Disappointed Don’t Have Right To Get Married

A group of 9 couples of the LGBT were disappointed that the district sheriff would not let them sign marriage certifications because it is against the Civil and Commercial law.

CHIANGMAI – February 14, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: at 9:00 pm, M plus foundation, and the foundation for sexual diversity, held the Khanmark carnival for 9 LGBT couples that went from Ta Pae to the district office to sign their marriage certification.
When the procession arrived at Muang Chiangmai district office, Mr.Akom Sukhawan the sheriff told the couples that it was still against civil and commercial law because the condition of marriage was for one man and one woman, so the couples went back disappointedly.

Mr. Pongpeera Patpeerapong, the manager of the foundation said that the campaign was to push the bill of sexual diverse marriage, he thought all people were equal according to law, no matter which sexual orientation they were. So he was trying to push the government to fix the bill as soon as possible.

During the same time at Tha Pae Gate, the traffic police officers, led by Pol.Col.Sittichai Tanachai, the directors of traffic division of Chiangmai provincial police with more than 20 police officers had a check point and were giving out roses and sweets to people passing by.

The police colonel, said that because of the politic problems in Bangkok tourists were going to Chiangmai instead so the police had to be more strict to prevent crimes and accidents, so they set up check points to look after people and because it was during the valentines festival they decided to give out roses to show their love and that they cared about the people.
