These stunning pictures show a wild Leopard on the run for 11 hours as it tragically mauled at least nine people after wandering into an Indian village looking for food.

The killer cat savaged anyone in its path and one villager is still in a critical condition at the hospital in Dindroli village, in Gujarat, western India.

Local villager, Dhaval Joshi, who took the terrifying images, said: ‘It was such a dramatic day. It was exciting but terrifying at the same time. We were all playing hide and seek with the beast all day.’

The Leopard was first spotted in the village at 7:30 a.m. on March 26

He had wandered down from the nearby Aravalli Hills, in northern Gujarat, but got angry and distressed by the villagers and soon started to attack.

At one point he sought refuge in an abandoned dwelling before managing to catch a goat and spending two hours devouring the animal.

As soon as it appeared back on the streets over 4,000 people quickly gathered to provoke the beast.

Armed with sticks and iron rods many villagers tried to chase the leopard away.

Dhaval, 30, said: ‘One moment the cat would be chasing the villagers and going wild but then at other times it would hide like a kitten.’

Dhaval was just 15 meters away from it at one point when it was attacking one villager.

‘It looked very angry,’ he said. ‘I think it was about to pounce on me when I was taking its photo. Thank god a villager threw a rock at him.’

The Forest Department eventually arrived and officials tried to capture the cat.

The chase went on for 11 hours before a forest ranger finally managed to hit it with a tranquilizer gun at 6:30 p.m.

The cat eventually fell unconscious and was caged before it was taken away by the forest department to a veterinary center where it is now being treated for its injuries.
