Laotian Girls Deceived to be Prostitutes at Chiang Rai Karaoke

The detective police team of Region 5 raided a karaoke shop called “Khrua Booppha Sawan Cherng Doi” in Amphur Pharn, Chiang Rai Province after reports that some Laotian girls were selling sexual services.

CHIANG RAI – March 26, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 9.00 a.m.; Pol.Col. Woraphong Khamlue (Superintendent of Investigation Sub-Division, Provincial Police Region 5), Pol.Lt.Col. Parinya Chaiwela (Deputy Superintendent), Pol.Lt.Col. Aphichart Hatthasin, Pol.Maj. Niran Thookphaen, Pol.Capt. Prasit Larsonsri (Inspector) and forces of detective police team together arrested Mrs. Nattaya Thasena, aged 38, residing at house no. 114 Moo 10 Tambon Pa Hoong, Amphur Pharn, Chiang Rai Province and Mrs. Mookda Jan-oey, aged 40, residing at house no. 114 Moo 10 Tambon Pa Hoong, Amphur Pharn, Chiang Rai Province with the allegations of “procuring, deceiving, or taking male or females to gratify other people’s sexual desire without the victims consent.

The victims were between 15-18 years old. The police team also arrested Mr. Niyom Kaewdee, aged 62, the ex-sub-district headman, residing at house no. 245 Moo 1 Tambon Pa Hoong, Amphur Pharn, Chiang Rai Province who is the husband of Mrs. Nattaya, with the exhibits of 1 black Baretta 9mm gun a 9mm magazine and 8 bullets.

Previously, the detective police team had investigated a karaoke shop called “Khrua Booppha Sawan Cherng Doi, which is located at 114 Moo 10 Tambon Pa Hoong, Amphur Pharn, Chiang Rai Province that had smuggled girls aged below 18 years old to sell sexual services. They then asked for the approval of a search warrant from Chiang Rai provincial court no. 376/2557 in order to search the karaoke shop.

Before searching the shop the detective officers had disguised themselves as customers to purchase sexual service from Mrs. Mookda in the shop. They asked for girls aged between 16 and 17 years old and Laotian nationality at a price of 1,000 THB each. The disguised officers then paid 3,000 THB to Mrs. Mookda who then charged 150 THB per room . Mrs. Mookda gave money to Mrs. Nattaya (the shop owner) then she brought the 2 Laotian girls to the rooms which were located near the karaoke shop.

When the 2 Laotian girls and Mrs. Mookda arrived at the rooms the police showed up and arrested them immediately and showed them the search warrant. Upon searching the karaoke shop the police found 5 Laotian girls who were all under 18 years old, therefore the officers asked to verify their documents which they didn’t have. The Laotian girls claimed that they were deceived and forced to sell sexual services.

Also the officers found Mr. Niyom (the husband of Mrs. Nattaya) was also inside the karaoke shop so they searched the room he was in and found a hand gun and ammunition which wasn’t licenced and he claimed that someone had left it with him. The officers arrested all defendants and sent them to the investigation officer of Pharn police station, Chiang Rai Province to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
