Landowner Out Vendors To Build Department Store

An ex Thai Royal Navy officer throws out tenants-shopkeepers, blocks shop area and moves the vendors property while they were away according to the locals. The Landowner wants to clear the space for a department store, The local people are ready to protest.

Sattahip, September 27, 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]; Mrs. Arisra Thongpol age 42. Address 76/117 Moo 6 Tambon Sattahip, Chonburi province complained to the media that Wing Commander Vittaya Visartnant, a retired officer of the Royal Thai Navy, landowner together with his son Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Assawin Visartnant stationed at Koh Kod island police station, Trad province had built a fence to prevent the locals from selling and buying goods from their in shops on Bon Kai road, Koh Kud island.

He announced that he will proceed according to the law in case of trespassing and threatened to cut the locks and remove the property from the shops.The journalist arrived at the scene but was not allowed to photograph and was told not to publish the news about the issue with the tenants. Wing Commander Vittaya and his son Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Assawin claimed that they acted according to the law because the tenants did not have valid rental agreements.

Mrs. Arissara Thongpol, the victim, said that she contacted Pol. Lt. Col. Sombat Sophap, Sattahip, about this problem. But later someone came to cut the electric line and move the electric motor out of her shop.She also notified Pol. Cap.Aekkachai Mullee but was threatened by Wing Commander Vittaya who said they will burn down the the shops to clear space for the new department store.

Wing Commander Vittaya and his staff removed the property of the vendors when the vendors returned home for three days. The vendors had attached the posters in front of their shops that they would be closed for three days. But the landlord still managed to get inside the shops.

Moreover, the the local vendors are againsts the building of the department store because it will impact their lively hood, the small grocery store and other store vendors.They said if the construction of the department store will take place, they will protest. They will do it for the well-being and future of the local people.
