Krabi Hotel Cons Tourists Out Of A Million Baht

Tourists who were meant to be staying at well-known hotel in Krabi where shocked when they arrived at the hotel to find there was no staff and the rooms that they had booked and paid for had not been reserved.

KRABI – March 29,2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 15.00, Many tourists notified t Muang Krabi police station, after they were tricked by Phu Phranang resort, located at 223 Moo 5, Ao Nang, Muang, Krabi. The hotel had sold them a travel package but when they arrived in Krabi, they didn’t have any rooms to stay in and could not contact the hotel.
Upon questioning a Mr.Anukul Chanadej, 43 years old living at the house number 111/838, Firsthome village, Ram Intra, Tarang,Bang, Bangkok a victim of the scam revealed that on December 18, 2013 he and 10 relatives and friends had booked a tour package to Krabi with a sales person from the hotel who was selling tour packages in Paradise Park department store, Sri Nakarin Rd. Bkk. He had booked to stay on 29-31 March, 2014, 3 days 2 nights, for 27,000 baht.

He was told that when he arrived at the airport there would be a car from the hotel waiting for him but when they arrived there was no car, so they called the hotel’s number but no one answered. He then waited for an hour but no one turned up so he decided to hire a car to get to the hotel but on arrival to the hotel there was nobody on reception and there where about 50 people waiting to check in who had experienced the same problem. He also added that he urges the relevant organizations to help them out and to sue the company because they know that they are still selling the same tour packages all over Bangkok.

A reporter went to Phu Phra Nang Resort and found that the company Phupranang Travel was next to it but the staff of the hotel offered to change the hotel or refund, but they had to wait 7 days which made the customers very upset.
Mrs. Wiyada Sriranggoon Director of Krabi Tourism authority of Thailand, said that initially TAT had been to the hotel already and found that a lot of guests had no rooms and she tried to help them find alternative accommodation, she also told the tourists to notify for the police. The hotel had tables selling tour packages in various locations through independent sale persons for a cheap price of 3 days 2 nights tour of 4 islands for 2,500 baht but when they arrived there was no such tour or hotel booked.

The police had received more than 200 complaints and the tourism authority of Krabi reported the incident to the provincial government office to find a way of fixing the problem.
