PDN Reporters and DC man their work cut out that night shooting photos of the artists and the appreciative crowd, many of whom had flown in from Chingmai and Phuket and even Korea just to join in the festival. It was as if, if only for now, all the worries about the economy and Swine Flu were cast aside.

The event, “Shopping Mall Presents POP Music Awards 2009 – No Music No Life”, to give it its full title, was presented by the POP TV. Channel and the organizers certainly did a good job in building up the festival atmosphere from early in the evening, as a long line of cars formed on Sukumvit Road until 1:00 am the next day.

The first artists to appear on stage were Girly Berry, Dan Worawet, Ben Cholatis, Laolom, C-Quint, Stamp, Lookpong-Patcha from AF house [ the popular talent TV show].

Several stunningly attractive dancers added spice to the show, with the audience dancing and singing along. In fact the excitement got the better of a few of the crowd, who fainted and had to be carried out for first aid, at which point the performers toned down the show for a while with a cooler and more laid back repertoire.

The high-light of the event was the announcement of the 11 winners of the singing and dancing competitions. The audience were screaming their favourite artists’ names out loud while photographers from a well represented media ran around to secure the best shots.

The hottest artist from Korea, AJ, purportedly gave the best performance of his life competing with his more senior Korean performers like “Rain” and “Seven” who could not make the trip to join them this time, while Korean Num Yon Jung, voted the best dancer, executed a dazzling routine which left the crowds breathless.

The event was brought to a close by a show from seven young men, a Korean group called “ 2PM”. Young teenagers were singing along and dancing with every song as if the party would never end. At times we felt we were actually at a festival in Korea, as we looked around and saw young Thai teens dressed up Korean style, including their hairstyle, their clothes, their dances and their ability to sing Korean songs. It was definitely Korean Fever!!

The event was a huge success and we are looking forward to host a gathering of music lovers again at the same time next year. So, we’ll see you in Pattaya at the POP Music Awards 2010 !!
