PATTAYA – June 3,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; a passenger ferry had sunk off the coast of Pattaya and a few days later another passenger ferry caught fire. On the 3rd June at the Villa Nawin hotel Mr.Ronnakit Aekasing-deputy mayor of Pattaya-, Mr.Cakorn Kanchanawatta-chief district of Bang Lamung-, Mr.Pimuk Prayoonpom-director of the marine department-, Mr.Rewat Phoriang-director of the marine department- had discussed the problems with the transportation operators.

They discussed the accidents and the officials agreed that every boat must have a captain, helmsman and an engineer. However, the license required for an engineer is hard to get so the officials compromised with the operators not to have a boat engineer. When the incident took place the captain had hardly any control over the incident.

As a result, this was a mistake that the officials intended to change and they would inspect each boat before in sets sail and when it arrives at its destination. However, some boats weren’t safe enough to set sail.
