Kenyans Win 20th Pattaya Asian Marathon

The 20th Pattaya Asian International Marathon 2011 was won by Kenyan male and female runners

Pattaya, July 17, 2011[Pattaya Daily News]; Pattaya Municipality in cooperation with Chonburi Province, Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Athletic Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of HM the King held the 20th Asian Marathon 2011 at Central Festival Pattaya.

Mr Pongsak Preechawit Chonburi Deputy Governor, Lt.Gen. ML.Prasobchai Kasemson, Vice President of the Athletic Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of HM the King and Mr Wittaya Kunpleum, Mayor of Pattaya attended the ceremony.
This 20th Asian Marathon 2011 a cooperation between the government and the private sector to encourage public interest in athlethics and to honor the 84 anniversary of HM King Bhumipol. Over 10,000 Thais and foreigners attended the 2011 marathon.The winners each received HM King’s Cup and THB 2,089,000 million worth of prizes. The marathon was divided in five different categories:

1st. 42.195 km. International marathon (Male/ Female)

2nd. 21.100 km. Half marathon for Thai (Male/ Female)

3rd. 10.55 km. Quarter marathon for Thai (Male/ Female)
4th. 3.5 km. Student marathon (Male/Female)

5th. 42.195 km. Wheelchair marathon

The winners of the international marathon were Mr Lawrence Kiptoo Saina, 25, from Kenya, time: 02:21:06 hrs. who recived THB 200,000 and Ms Euzaeth Jeruiyoj Chemweno, Kenya time: 02:44:09 hrs. who received THB 200,000. The winner of the Thai half marathon was Mr Sonchai Namket, time: 01.12.13 hrs. who recieved THB 40,000. The winner of the wheelchair marathon was Mr Prawat Wahoram; time: 0:24:15 hrs. who recieved THB 25,000.
