Justice Minister Wants To Get Heavy With Inmate Drug Tycoons

The Justice Minister, Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, appears to have reached the end of his tether as far as the prison drug godfathers go. He said on May23, 2009 that he wants to lock them away in an Alcatraz-type environment where they can no longer reach anyone.

Justice Minister, Pirapan Salirathavibhaga announced to the press on Saturday, May23, that he is seriously considering secluding prison-inmates, who deal in drugs to other convicts, away from the rest of the world in ultra-secure imprisonment.

“I’m thinking about asking the Royal Thai Navy to find an isolated island or unused old oil-drilling platform, possibly in the Gulf of Thailand, to put these nasty drug-dealing convicts on so they can’t contact anyone to ply their trade,” the minister is reported as saying.

He did, however, acknowledge that this draconian solution would entail a change in the law to accommodate his indignation. Past experience of similar set-ups in such places as Alcatraz Island ultra-secure prison in the US, however, teaches that no matter what measures one uses to attempt to prevent such practices, the perpetrators will just devise new means to counteract them.

We wish him luck in his endeavours, but don’t hold out too much hope of Mr. Pirapan being able to put a final stop to the ploys of the drug barons.
