Jet Ski Scams Yet AgainPattaya sectors both public and private have discussed the ever growing problems caused by jet ski operators who are constantly ripping tourists off.
PATTAYA – August 6,2015 [PattayaDailyNews]; in the afternoon at Pattaya City Hall, Mr Ronakit Aekasingha- deputy mayor of Pattaya- chaired a meeting to deal with Jet Ski operators in Pattaya who are ripping tourists off.
Mr Ronnakit said that Pattaya officials had been informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Pattaya officials will be in charge of looking after the conference between Thai and India. Also they discussed the case that Indian tourists had been continuously targeted and ripped off by jet ski operators who charged them extortionate amounts of money for so called damage they caused to the jet ski and if they didn’t pay they were threatened with violence.
The Chonburi governor had set up a committee to control and manage the operators but the same old scams were still happening. The officials now intend to revise the law, deal with the insurance issues as all jet skis have no insurance, zone the operators and have a more stricter control on them.
Mr Snit Boonmachay- a member of Pattaya congress- said that the tourists who were scammed by the Jet Ski operator should complain to the police who would inspect the case. However, the operators always asked for extortionate amounts of money and when the police turned up they would side the operator not the tourist and the tourist would still have to pay regardless.
Pol.Maj.Col.Piyapong Enasarn- inspector of Pattaya tourism police- revealed that the police had been notified twice in February, once in March, Twice in April, twice in May, 8 times in June and 9 times in July by tourists who had been scammed by the Jet Ski operators.
Mr.Sinchai wattananasartsathorn- president of business and tourism in Pattaya- revealed that Ministry of Sport and tourism need to sort this problem because the targeted tourists who are mainly Indian are one of the largest tourists groups coming to Pattaya who generate a large amount of revenue for the city and this type of action is setting a very bad image for a tourist destination which is already seen many businesses close due to the ever falling numbers of tourists coming here each year.
