Jap, German & Thai’s Embroiled in Drug Trafficking Busts

Two Thai women have been arrested at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Thursday after attempting to smuggle approximately 6kg of the class-1 restricted drug Ya-Ice (crystal methamphetamine) into the Kingdom. Authorities on the Cambodian border have also apprehended a Japanese and German national over cannabis and Viagra possession.

Bangkok, the 3rd of June [Pattaya Daily News]: Customs officials at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday instigated a search on two suspicious Thai women, who were found to have been concealing a combined weight of 6.4kg of Ya-Ice between them. The drugs have a street value of approximately Bt18 million.

The two woman, in transit on the way to Cambodia from Ghana on an Ethiopian Airlines Flight, have admitted to being drug mules that were being used to smuggle the Ya-Ice into Cambodia for distribution on the streets of Phnom Penh and in Cambodia’s notorious casino’s.

Narcotics Suppression Bureau officers confirmed the arrest of Miss Siriwan Thawaisap [27] and Miss Romathee Saelee [37] who had later revealed that they had been hired by African men to smuggle the drugs from Ghana in exchange for a Bt34,000 hotel stay and payment of Bt50,000 in cash.

In other drug related news, two arrests have been made by customs officials at the Sa Kaeo border office in Cambodia on Thursday. A Japanese national, Mr. Hoshino Tomio [63] was detained after having been found in possession of approximately 13g of marijuana and 16 Viagra pills. He later stated that he had purchased the drugs in Cambodia and had intended to take them into Thailand for personal consumption during his stay.

A German tourist, Mr. Max Albert Winkler [62] was also apprehended later on Thursday at the Sa Kaeo crossing after a search of his luggage revealed a concealment of 72 Viagra tablets hidden in his suitcase. He confessed to having purchased the drugs in Phnom Penh and stated that they were for personal use.
