A private Thai detective, Amnuaiporn Maneewan has invented a James Bond-inspired gadget called a “mia noi” or “little wife” that acts as a spying device to detect cheating spouses.

The “little wife” gadgets include tiny cameras and recording equipment hidden in pens, car keys, buttonholes and even calculators, in order to capture the unfaithful spouses in action.

The 42-year-old inventor has over 15-year experience, working as a private detective in Thailand, especially in exposing cheating spouses for a law firm in Bangkok.

Amnuaiporn Maneewan imparts her wisdom in this detective industry “The only man you can trust is a dead one. If they’re still alive, still breathing, then you can’t trust them.”

The “mia noi” inventor said there are more and more extra-curricular affairs in the country.

It’s just increasing the whole time; it’s not slowing down at all. Now, they don’t just have one mistress, they have two or three mistresses. It’s like a fashion. It’s normal. No man leaves the house without a mistress”, she said.

Her detective business has never been better with three or four new clients, mostly women between ages of 20 and 60, contact her every day. In contrast approximately 3 out of 10 calls are from suspicious husbands.

If there was no one like me, these people would have to suffer for a long time. My job and I help people to open their eyes. I let them see the truth,” said Amnuaiporn.

According to a psychiatry professor, Ronnachai Kongsakol at Ramathibodi Hospital in Bangkok, government officials are particularly likely to have mistresses

They have their status. They have power. They have money. It’s quite easy for them to pay for another woman,” said Kongsakol.

His research on extramarital affairs indicates that the main motives for men to seek mistresses are opportunity, intimacy and sympathy.

Amnuaiporn has also produced a book called “The Private Eye: They ask me to investigate adultery”. The book includes true stories from her detective work in tracking the unfaithful.

In one scenario, she was hired by a wealthy man to detect his suspicious wife. When the husband pretended to go on a business trip, his wife arranged to meet another man in a “short stay hotel.

Amnuaiporn and the husband tracked down hotel and raided the couple’s room. The wife’s lover was found alone in the room. After searching several nearby rooms, the wife was found stuck on the wall of an adjoining balcony “like a gecko”.

The book also reveals basic detective tips for suspicious partners such as sudden upturn in their grooming and unexpected business trips to other parts of the country.

While Amnuaiporn is passionate and excited about her career, her job has given her little desire to settle down.

I am afraid that I will face the same problems I’ve seen. I think it’s good to stay single,” she said.
