Pattaya, the 15th of August 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 5:30pm on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Pratheep Thongdee (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of an attempted suicide involving a foreigner at the Thai U-dom Apartment in Soi Thai U-dom Naklua. A team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were dispatched to the incident to investigate.

At the scene, a 6-storey apartment block, police observed Mr. Daniele Buratti [34], an Italian national, sitting on the roof of a neighbouring house to the building. Mr. Daniele Buratti had allegedly jumped from the sixth floor of the Thai U-dom Apartment block in order to commit suicide. Apart from several cuts and bruises, Mr. Buratti was remarkably uninjured in the fall.

Managing to assist him from the roof, Mr. Buratti was immediately transported to the Banglamung Hospital for treatment on his numerous, relatively minor, injuries.

A witness to the incident, Mr. Wanrob Pansri [36], explained that he had seen Mr. Buratti throw his luggage off the roof of the apartment block before he calmly climbed over the concrete wall and jumped. Further investigations revealed that Mr. Buratti was not in fact a resident of the apartments and had never been seen in the building prior to Sunday’s events.

During the incident report process back at the Pattaya Police Station, it was found that Mr. Buratti had been involved in the theft of a bottle of water from a local 7-Eleven earlier in the day. He had been released by the store manager while in an extremely intoxicated state, claiming to have been robbed of all his money by a Beach Road working girl. Police only temporarily detained him before releasing him without charge.

Officers will continue with their investigations following Mr. Buratti’s release from the hospital. At present, police speculate that Mr. Buratti may be suffering from an unknown mental condition or bout of severe depression as a result of possible financial hardships.
