They announced that following an investigation which had lasted several months into the suspected activities of Mr. Thomas McCauley, [48], an Irish national, the now confirmed drug dealer was eventually caught in the police string operation.

Altogether, McCauley was caught in possession of 109 grams of Yah Ice, 2 tablets of Yah–E, 7 tablets of Yah Bah, 11.4 grams of dry marijuana and 16 grams of raw opium. He also had in his possession a small pair of scales, 60 empty plastic bags, 3 sets of drug consuming kit, and a mobile phone. In addition, the dealer had Bt6000 baht cash from the sting operation, and Bt52,000 cash, all of which were in his black Toyota Fortuner . In all, the haul amounted to a net worth of over Bt3 million.

Pol. Col. Somneuk Junket related that Banglamung police had been investigating McCauley for quite some time and they had strongly suspected that he was supplying drugs to both foreigners and local teenagers in Pattaya and nearby areas. A sting operation was eventually ordered, commanded by the Pol.Majors Kamol Taweesee and Nit Withinautakit, whereby an undercover officer had ordered 9 grams of Yah-E for Bt6000 from McCauley, who agreed to deliver the items at around 8.00pm, on 26 April, near a 7/11 store in front of Ek- Mongkol 4 , in Soi Kaotalow, Moo. 10 Banglamung.

McCauley duly kept his appointment and was seized in possessions of all the drugs mentioned above. He confessed that he had been running the business for a long time and his customers included foreigners and locals in bars and pubs. Police said they intend to question him further and are keen to discover details of his network so as to arrest members as soon as possible. This urgency is in accordance with the current clamp down on drugs and crime ordered by the prime minister, especially in tourist areas.
