Pattaya, the 23rd of January 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 1:00pm on Saturday, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chatchai Srisuwan (Pattaya Police Investigator) received a report that a foreign tourist had drowned in Pattaya Bay, behind the Adriatic Hotel, Pratamnak Road, South Pattaya. A team of police and members from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation rushed to the scene to investigate.

On the beach, behind the Adriatic Hotel, police discovered the deceased body of Mr. Soghandi Alireza [44] an Iranian national. Mr. Alireza was clothed in a pair of blue swimming shorts and had been enjoying the waters of Pattaya Bay at the time of his death. A small crowd had gathered at the scene who reportedly had attempted to save his life. Medical officers reported that Mr. Alireza’s face was extremely pale and that his mouth was full of sea water and saliva indicating that he had possibly drowned.

Eyewitnesses at the scene explained that Mr. Alireza had been swimming in the area alone, when he appeared to struggle in the water, convulsing and attempting to swim back to shore. Reportedly, several swimmers and beach goers swam out to assist Mr. Alireza, however; their attempts to resuscitate him were ultimately unsuccessful.

At this point in time police are assuming that Mr. Alireza suffered a major heart attack and drowned as a result. His body has now been sent for autopsy to find out if these initial assumptions are correct. The Iranian embassy will also be notified of the incident.
