Pattaya, the 1st of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 1:30am on Tuesday, police Lieutenant Colonel Kreetha Tonkhanarat (Region 2 Police Deputy Superintendent) whilst on patrol in the Bali Hai Pier area of South Pattaya, observed an assault involving a somewhat intoxicated foreign man and a Thai citizen.

Approaching the scene police attempted to intervene on the situation before the foreign man struggled and provoked the officers. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the station for interrogation along with the Thai victim.

During interrogation of the offender, Mr. Ramin Asgarinik [46] an Iranian national, he was not compliant with police questioning and had persistently refused to sign the arrest/incident report. Officers subsequently detained Mr. Asgarinik in custody for further interrogation once he has regained his sobriety.

The Thai man, suspected to have been the victim in the incident, Mr. Pratum Sa-adnuk [36] told police that he had been walking along the footpath towards Bali Hai Pier when he was attacked by Mr. Asgarinik who hit him in the stomach. Mr. Sa-adnuk claims that he had done nothing to provoke the assault. He also stated to police that Mr. Asgarinik had repeatedly mentioned that he was angry at him walking so close to his motorbike which was parked beside the public footpath.

Mr. Asgarinik remains in police custody awaiting further questioning, whilst Mr. Sa-adnuk was released after a statement had been taken. At present, it is not known whether Mr. Sa-adnuk is wishing to press charges over the assault.
