Chonburi, 27th January 2011 [Pattaya Daily News] The criminal used a 9mm to shoot the unidentified girl 3 times. The girl died on the spot by the roadside of Sai Bong- Horshupoi Moo 9 Bong Banglamung Chonburi, in the middle of the night of the 22nd January. Police investigators from Banglamung made inquiries in the surrounding area until they were able to identify the body as Ms. Sugananya Mendo , 25, residence: 661 Moo 7 Charoenphon Banphotipisai Nakhorn Sawan. At first it was concluded that the case was a brutal murder after sexual abuse, personal anger or evolved from drug trafficking as previously reported.

Progress in this case could be made on the 26th January 2011. Police General Sombuek Janthonged, police station banglamung, Chonburi, Police Lieutenant Bramot Ngambradit , Police Lieutenant Nit Withinantakit and Police Captain Kornpong Sukhvisith, working on the case, sent a team of officials to arrest Mr. Marut Kanthongdee ( Ake ) 30, residence: 42/98 Moo 2 Na Gluea Banglamung, the accused shooter, who was sitting in a 2-storyed house near Phong Bridge, Moo 7 Phong Banglamung. In the household, Ms. Sugananya’s, mobile phone and a .32 gun were found and impounded as evidence.

Mr. Marut said that he and Mr.Srawut Rathnophahira ( or Joke Watham ) 34, another man involved in the crime the police have been looking for, and owner of 3 guns, had planned the murder of Ms. Sugananya. The three of them rode on a motorbike, telling her they were going to buy the drug ‘ice’ until they got to a secluded street by a pineapple farm, about 2 km from ‘Horse Shoe Point’, where Joke took out a 9mm gun and shot Ms. Sugananya 3 times until she died while crying for her life. After that Mr. Marute drove Joke to hide. The murder evolved due to the anger Joke had for Ms. Sugananya, as she was acting as if she’ would call the police. Mr. Srawut however was involved in a seperate incident in which he got shot by the police on the 25th January.

Police General Somnuek Jonthonged said, after the incident he sent an investigation team out to investigate for information in the surrounding area, until they got information from the wife of Mr. Srawut , who told them that her husband and Mr.Marut had made a plan to murder Ms. Sugananaya. The officials therefore hurried to arrest Mr. Marut. The case in which Mr. Srawut was shot by officials however, was another case. Nonetheless, it is considered that the police have succeeded in closing the case of the murder of Ms. Sugananya in a short amount of time. They have successfully arrested Mr. Marut, and Mr.Srawut has been shot by police officials in unrelated incident. It is considered as karma. Having made further investigations regarding the backgrounds of the accused, it turned out that both had been involved in drug-trafficking in the area. Mr. Srawut had also been accumulating guns, which where found assembled along with different pictures of guns in his residence by Liaptaang Railway Rd.

As Mr. Marut was confessing to the police in his residence to which the police had come to arrest him, they also found Mr. Ithiphon Gadnork ,20, and Mr. Sagdaa Insa-ard ,23, looking suspicious. The police therefore checked them and found equipment for the abuse of the drug ‘ice’. They therefore took them for a urine test. Mr. Marut confessed that he and Mr. Srawut had planned the murder in his residence and it took them about 2 hours until they fullfilled it.
