Sattahip, the 14th of April 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 9:30pm, Vice Admiral Khanut Thongphoon (Navy Region1 Commander-in-Chief) and Police Lieutenant Pitichon Terdkiatkun (Sattahip Police Investigator) received a report that a Thai tourist, Mr. Den Denduang [35] was missing off the coast of Bang Saray. The man had allegedly gone for a swim whilst intoxicated, his relatives reporting him missing after he did not return to the shore. The Special Operations Unit from Navy Region 1 along with the Sawang Rodjanatham Foundation personnel was dispatched to the scene to search for the missing man.

After several hours of searching Navy divers eventually discovered the body of Mr. Denduang lying on the seabed approximately 300 meters of the coast of Bang Saray. Mr. Saksri Thepwichai [41] a relative of the deceased, from Banglamung, stated that Mr. Denduang had travelled to Bang Saray with his family in order to celebrate the Thai New Year and avoid the current political confrontations in Bangkok.

The body of Mr. Denduang has been sent to the Sattahip Navy Hospital for autopsy at which point it will be released to his relatives for funeral proceedings. Vice Admiral Khanut Thongphoon stated that the Navy is currently on standby to help in case of emergency due to the increased amount of visitors to the eastern seaboard beach’s, primarily around the Pattaya region. Vice Admiral Thongphoon also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased man on behalf of the entire Sattahip Naval base.
