Pattaya, – Monday 1st February 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: –   PDN interviewed leading Rotary Club of Pattaya official Mr. Niels, who is widely known as one of the founders and a moving force behind this charity event. He stated that there was more involvement this year by Pattaya’s various clubs, business organisations, local sponsors, and even Pattaya City Hall.

At the last moment the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) generously stepped forward and donated the major trophies, some of which were fashioned in “Benjaron” porcelain. Much of the success was due to the huge promotional efforts by the “Bed-Race” committee, which saw 20 – 30 times more advertising, and all of this was provided free by Pattaya’s local media organisations. The main sponsors included Barter Card, “The Avenue,” Pattaya People, Globol i-Care and CTLS language school.

This second annual International Bed Race event saw thousands of spectators watch almost forty bed racing teams compete for the title of Bed Racing Champions. Many local teams entered using all sorts of decorations, resembling boats, cars, trucks and anything else that one could imagine, plus there were even a couple of brave wheel-chair entrants.

There was a “Family Fair” starting at 12.00 noon with games, shopping and entertainment that offered lots of fun and excitement for everyone. The “Bed Race got under way at around 4.45 pm with the route of the race starting on Beach Road, turning left into Soi 12, then left again along Pattaya Beach Road. Finally another left turn into South Pattaya Road, from where they all went back into Second Road to the finishing line in front of “The Avenue.”

It was pleasing to see that the winners were none other than CTLS Language School in Soi Yumet, who were also one of the major sponsors of this 2nd Pattaya International Bed Race. Before the winning trophies were presented there was a monster “Lucky Draw” consisting of over eighty prizes, having a total value of over 170,000 baht, and the first prize was a 38,000 baht electric bike. Filipino singer Mary from the “Blues Factory” in Walking Street started off the entertainment, followed by a lively dance show from the “Copa Club” in South Pattaya’s Soi Pattayaland-3.

After what was an extremely successful annual International Bed Race, the Rotary Club of Pattaya held a thank-you party for all of the sponsors, the racing teams and everyone connected with this event. This year’s Bed Race received much press attention and became and has become a permanent annual event in Pattaya receiving international press coverage on TV, Internet and the print media around the world, so Pattaya City Hall has included it in their “Events of the Year” budgets for following years.
