Pattaya, the 30th of December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: The best answer is to join the original Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) and become part of their small group of dedicated sailors and cruise around to some of the worlds most beautiful and idyllic tropical islands. The brains behind this innovative idea, American expat Nathan Russo, who previously worked in property evaluation. He correctly surmised tat during the low season many charter yachts lie idle for much of the time, and that they could be open to negotiations by local expats, for cut price chartering.

Instead of the normal $500 US per day many yacht companies were prepared to discount these prices by 30%, so the end result has been that the members of the “Pattaya Blue Water Sailing Club” have been enjoying superb cruising on large luxury yachts for as little as $50 US per day. Most members have some yachting experience, and these boats are extremely comfortable, being typically around 17-metres (50 ft.) in length. These boats are often chartered as “bare boats” without a captain, as there are plenty of club members with similar qualifications.

However, Nathan Russo is very mindful of the fact that there has to be benefits to both parties, so he has said to the boat owners, – “if you get a large booking within four days of the “Pattaya Blue Water Sailing Club” excursion, then our members will forego their intended trip. The other advantage to boat owners is that it is not good to have big boats being unused and just sitting on moorings for extended periods of time; (occasional usage is much better). Large world-wide yacht charter company is now showing an interest in Nathan Russo’s scheme, so it is possible that in the future we may see companies such as “Sun Charters” move in on the local market.

Now for the best part of this arrangement; – There is no membership fee and the “Pattaya Blue Water Sailing Club” has started as simply a group of friends, with a common interest in blue water sailing. Costs are shared evenly, and if you are interested, then why not attend their next meeting on Friday 15th January at “Cherry’s Restaurant” on Third Road (opposite “Xcite Disco.” (For further information phone Nathan Russo on 0852.756.724).
