Innocent Man Shot After Suspected Road Rage Quarrel in Pattaya

An innocent Pattaya motorbike taxi rider has been shot in the leg after a quarrel between motorists led to shots being fired at the nearby motorbike taxi rank. The incident occurred in front of the 7-Eleven store near Soi 6, 2nd Road in North Pattaya.

Pattaya, the 17th of April 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 4:30am, police Major Chot Lamom (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a shooting incident at a 7-Eleven store in North Pattaya. A team of police and rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were dispatched to the scene immediately after an innocent civilian had reportedly been shot in the incident.

Arriving at the location police were confronted by a crowd of onlookers who had gathered to assist Mr. Ram Thabjak [38] a local motorbike taxi rider who had been shot in the leg. Witnesses at the scene informed police that the offenders had fled the scene with the shooter reportedly having run off down Soi 6. Mr. Thabjak was immediately rushed to the Banglamung Hospital for treatment on his injury.

Investigation of the scene uncovered a spent 9mm shell casing along with another unused bullet. Police interrogated Mr. Bunnithi Somchai [20] a fellow motorbike taxi rider working at the same taxi stand as Mr. Thabjak, who explained that two cars, a Bronze Honda City and a Black Toyota Fortuner, had stopped nearby with the drivers becoming embroiled in a heated argument. A crowd gathered around the pair when a friend of one of the drivers expressed his displeasure at the gathered crowd proceeding to fire 2-3 shots in the direction of the motorbike taxi station, one bullet hit Mr. Thabjak in the leg. The offender and his companions including the two quarrelling drivers immediately fled the scene in a panic.

Officers interviewed various other witnesses to the scene who all gave a similar detailing of events to Mr. Bunnithi. Investigators have subsequently recovered the CCTV footage from the nearby 7-Eleven and will begin their investigations into catching the violent offender immediately.
