The charity production is under the sponsorship of the International Women’s Club of Thailand and The Ramathibodi Foundation with a gala opening night reception Thursday at 6:30pm with curtain at 7:30pm.

Tickets are 1500Bht for opening night performance and tickets for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday showings are 1000Bht.  Reserved seats are available for all 4 performances starting September 17, 2010 through Total Reservation at www.totalreservation.com.

This charity event is sponsored by the International Women’s Club of Thailand and The Ramathibodi Foundation.  All proceeds will go to support the charities of the IWC and The Ramathibodi Foundation.  The IWC focuses on social welfare by raising awareness and money for Thai charities assisting the primary needs of underprivileged women and children – and through its own scholarship fund (established in 1994) providing annual scholarships to needy female students.  Additional sponsorship is provided by Chang Water and Nitrate Thai.

An international cast will bring to life the longest running musical in the history of American theater here in Bangkok.  The cast is headed by well known Bangkok performer Nico Torio in the role of El Gallo.  The Boy, Matt is played by Thanote “Christopher” Rojanakit and The Girl, Luisa by Pearl Rapeeporn Pratun-Anon.  Kittiporn “Mo” Rodvanich and Ploen Sopitpongstorn play their parents with American James Marple as Henry and New Zealander Leon Weeks as Mortimer to round out the cast.

The authors of the musical, Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt wrote THE FANTASTICKS for a summer theatre at Barnard College. After its Off-Broadway opening in May 1960, it went on to become the longest-running production in the history of the American stage and one of the most frequently produced musicals in the world. It is currently running in a successful revival in New York.

The original production opened on May 3, 1960 at the 150-seat Sullivan Street Playhouse in New York’s Greenwich Village – where it played for 42 years and 17,162 performances! Because audiences wanted “Much More” of the timeless tale, The Fantasticks was revived on August 23, 2006 at the Jerry Orbach Theatre at the Snapple Theater Center – where it continues today!
