Rather than attempting to escape, the inept thief returned to once again try to snatch the bag from where the victim was attempting to retrieve it, but the lady boy wasn’t about to make the same mistake again and, with the help of vigilantes, grabbed the thief, making a citizen’s arrest.

At 1.40 am, on December 15, Police Lieutenant Somchai Chaikananukul, Pattaya Deputy Investigator, was notified that a man had been arrested for attempted to snatch a bag in front of 7/11, Soi 6, Pattaya Second Road, and duly sent officers along to the incident scene to investigate.

Arriving at the scene, police found a crowd of onlookers, including vendors and motorbike taxi drivers, as well as the subdued thief, Mr. Sakda Buajarern [29], a snooker club staff member from Nongprue. His blue Honda wave motorbike was parked near him. The victim, Ms Prayong Hinlad [18], a lady-boy from Nongkai and her friend were also waiting for the police, so as to make an identification of the thief.

Ms Prayong said she had been sitting behind her friend on his motorbike while riding from Walking Street, driving to see her boyfriend who lives in a condo in North Pattaya. Suddenly, a motorbike approached their bike at speed and, pulling alongside, the accused grabbed her bag, but accidentally dropped it on the road. She had Bt200 and a mobile phone in it and told her friend to stop the bike and attempted to retrieve it, but the thief returned instead of running away, and once again tried to pull the bag from her. This time, however, he wasn’t so lucky as vigilante passersby converged on the thief and detained him.

Police took him to the police station, where Mr. Sakda, confessed that he’d wanted to have some money to enjoy himself and seeing an opportunity had attempted a bag-snatch. He will be prosecuted for attempted theft.
