On 11 November 2007, at 5:30pm, Police Sub. Lieutenant Grit In-gaew, Banglamung, Chonburi, was notified that a Navy Private had hung himself from a tree near Maab Prachan Reservoir, Moo 3, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. A police team, along with Sawang Boriboon Rescue, rushed to the scene.
At the scene of the tragedy, the body of Private Banlue Hemantra (23), fromSra-gaew Province, who was a member of the boat maintenance department at the Navy Base, was hanging from a tree. He was clad in patterned shorts and a green T-shirt. A green, nylon rope was tied around his neck. The body hung about three meters over the ground. Under the tree, there was a hoe and shoes that belonged to the deceased, young man. Sawang Boriboon Rescue took the young man down from the tree and discovered that his tongue blocked his air passage. His face had turned blue and both his arms and legs were constricted. It was believed that he had been dead for about six hours.

Lieutenant Payab Kumbamroong, chief of the shipyard, told officials that he had taken four oarsmen, including Private Banlue, who worked in the boat maintenance department, to practice rowing at Maab Prachan Reservoir, in preparation for Navy Sports Week, which will commence on 12 November. In the early morning on the same day, at about 7am, he saw Private Bamlue grab a hoe and walk out of the camp. Private Banjue said that he was going to the bathroom.

Although Private Banlue didn’t return for quite some time, nobody suspected anything untoward had occurred. Later, at around 1pm, a young woman, named Miss Yo, who works at a karaoke bar and was seeing Private Banlue, came looking for Private Banlue. When she couldn’t find him, she left. When there was still no sign of the young man at dusk, Lieutenant Payab directed Private Theerasak, and other friends of the young private, to search for him. Eventually, they found Private Banlue hanging from a tree and reported the tragedy to the police.

Officials theorized that Private Banlue had committed suicide as a result of personal problems, possibly connected to romantic problems with Miss Yo, his girlfriend from the karaoke bar. Private Banlue was generally reputed to be a cheerful person. “It is a pity that the navy has lost two members at Maab Prachan Reservoir. The first case was on 6 November, a navy student, GritsadaThamarong (18), from Petchburi Province, a first year student at Chumphol Navy School, Sattahip and an oarsman on the school rowing team, was drowned during rowing practice. Sadly we also lost Private Banlue this time,” Lieutenant Payab said.
