Positive Results of Pattaya “Anti-Narcotics Month” Revealed

The results of June’s “Anti-Narcotics Month” were unveiled by Chon-Buri police and administrators on Saturday. Pattaya’s individual results were impressive, whilst over 1,000 people arrested in multi-million baht seizures across the region.

Chon-Buri, the 26th of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Directed by Mr. Phornchai Khaunsakun (Chon-Buri Administrative Assistant) and Colonel Theeraphon Jindaluang (Chon-Buri Police Deputy Superintendent) held a press conference to announce the results of June’s “Anti-Narcotics Month.” The announcement of the results coincided with the “World Anti-Drugs Day” on the 26th of June 2010.

Thailand’s June crackdown on illicit/illegal drugs was a result of an organised initiative by the Interior Ministry attempting to further stifle the operations and trade in narcotics prevalent in the Kingdom. Tentatively titled “Clean & Prevent” anti-narcotic operations were undertaken by police in all regions of the country between the 4th and 30th of June 2010.

Chon-Buri’s operation, inclusive of Pattaya, was fronted by Mr. Seni Jitkasem (Chon-Buri Governor & Director of the Chon-Buri Overcome Drug Addiction Center) and Major Thanet Phingnammueng (Chon-Buri Police Superintendent & Chon-Buri Overcome Drug Addiction Center Deputy Director). Chon-Buri investigation involved random check points, targeted sting investigation on suspected dealers and raids at all local and provincial prisons.

Arrests for the Chon-Buri region in June’s purge on narcotics include:

– Over 1,200 suspect dealers arrested (1,183 charged)

– 918 drug users arrested and charged

– 2 large-scale national drug running operations stifled

Confiscated drugs/weapons for the Chon-Buri Region include:

– Over 11,500 pills of Ya-Ba

– 140g of Ya-Ice

– 38kg of pre-packaged marijuana

– 2 pills of Ya-E

– 4 tonne of marijuana plants

– 28 handguns

– 3 rifles

– 132 rounds of ammunition

The three most successful Chon-Buri district police stations included; Pattaya Police Station; 336 charged from 339 suspects, Chon-Buri Police Station; 178 charged from 183 suspects and Banglamung Police Station; 102 charged from 112 suspects.

Mr. Khaunsakun (Chon-Buri Administrative Assistant) revealed his delight at the positive results for June’s “Anti Narcotics Month” stating that Chon-Buri operations would not only continue until the 30th of June, but be ongoing thereafter. Attempting to make the province a “white area” where drug related crimes, dealings and addiction are eradicated.

In coalition with the “World Anti-Drug Day” Mr. Khaunsakun also revealed that the results of Thailand’s “Anti-Narcotics Month” was devoted to His Majesty the King in the year of his 84th birthday.
