Illegal Orthodontics Shops Raided At Chonburi Mall

Crime Suppression Division police raided two illegal Orthodontics business in a well-known Chonburi department store mall. Officers arrested a worker and store owner. Customers had complained that the shops offered shoddy products and services to the point of cheating them.

CHONBURI – March 27, 2013, two illegal orthodontics shops were raided by police at the Chalermthai Shopping Mall department store, Chonburi province.

The raids were ordered by Pol. Maj. Gen. Niphon Charernphon, Commander of Crime Suppression Division; who together with Pol. Col. Witthaya Sriprasertpharb, Deputy Commander; had commanded Pol. Sub. Lt. Phatcharakrit Parnsetthasiri, Deputy Inspector with the officers of special operation unit, to raid the shops and make arrests.

The shops were located on the third floor of the department store. Both shops operated as Orthodontics businesses offering services and products to general customers.

However, the police had been receiving complaints from people that the shops operated with ineffectiveness and at such substandard levels that they were cheating people. After being notified, the police sent a spy to make a lure purchase from the Orthodontics shop in order to arrest the owner of the shop.

At the first shop, officers restrained Ms. Wornrawila Imsabai, age 24, from Tambon Bangphlee, Samutprakarn province. She told police she was only the shop manager and not the business owner. But the business owner did not come to work that day.

The police also sent the spy to make a lure purchase in the second shop. They arrested Mr. Nopphadech Prongklang, age 27, from Tambon Huaytakae, Amphur Meuang, Petchaboon province. He was identified as the shop owner, and arrested while helping a customer with the orthodontics.

Pol. Sub. Lt. Patcharakrit Parnsetthasiri, Deputy Inspector, charged the suspects with 3 accusations of doing fault according to the 1979 Act of protecting consumers, for selling fashionable orthodontic wire braces prohibited to be sold as per the commandment at 10/2522 act 36 and 56.

The second accusation involves opening Orthodontics businesses without permission, and the third accusation involves operating businesses lacking dentistry work permits. The police sent the defendants to the Chonburi police station to prosecute according to the law, and will investigate further to arrest the rest of the defendants.
