New Office Located in Soi 5, Jomtien The Immigration office is now in Jomtien, on the right just after the Jomtien Thani Hotel and is easily accessible. Sporting a new car park, parking will be a vast improvement on their old premises in Soi 8 and there are convenient facilities nearby, like photocopying and cafes.

Ignorance is no excuse in law, so all expats have 90 days from the date of their last entry to locate the new premises and make their 90 day registration, or else! Also take note, the overstay fine will increase to 500 Baht per day from 15th March.

The Immigration Offices are open from 8.30am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday. The move to new premises was necessitated by the increased demand for visas, permits and extensions (approximately a 15% rise on last year). The move was instigated by the new Superintendent of the Pattaya Immigration,

Police Colonel Ittipol. Inevitably, this also required a staff increase and their numbers have risen to 5 officers at Utapao and 35 in Pattaya.

They also have a sub-branch, which is open every Wednesday from Ipm-2pm, in Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital for incapacitated, hospitalized foreigners to be processed.

For the uninitiated, all the various procedures are on a push-button number waiting system. You must register before joining the queue. Those requiring forms -usually TM 7, TM8 or TH47- need to glance to the right upon entering.

The greatest advance will be the ability to provide on-line visa extension. Your TM 7 can now be completed via the internet and when you attend the Immigration Office the following day, armed with your passport, the process will have been facilitated by the officers already having conducted background checks and able to stamp your passport. The whole process now takes about 10 minutes, depending on the queue.

However, another new facility is the webcam which gives real-time images of the office, hence you can see the degree of congestion in advance and plan your sortie accordingly.

You can access their website at www.pattaya-immigration.org. The Immigration staff can be contacted on 038 252.750-1, or send them an e-mail: phattaya_imm@thaimail.com
