Husband climbs up electricity post after losing gold necklace

A man panicked after losing his gold necklace worth 20,000 THB. He was afraid that his wife would be angry at him, therefore he climbed a 50 metre high electricity post.

SAMUTPRAKAN – May 19, 2013; Police officers of Bang Sao Thong Police station were informed that a man was found climbing up a high-voltage electricity post. The incident happened at Pormet village’s public park. A number of residents watched the man as he was up on the electricity post.

After initially investigating, the man who climbed the electricity is 45 year-old Mr. Rai Tumtan, a factory worker. He was in a drunk state and it was believed that he wasn’t conscious of his actions. When he climbed up the 50 metre high electricity post he shouted that he would jump down to commit suicide.

Police officers tried to calm him down by asking him questions. It was later known that the man was in a crazed state after losing his gold necklace. It was also known that he was afraid of his wife being angry as the gold necklace worth a lot of money. He then decided to drink alcohol to relax and ultimately climbing up the electricity post.

Afterwards, Police then asked Mr. Rai’s wife to persuade to climb down the electricity. She promised that she will not be angry at her husband, making him calm down and finally climb down the electricity post at last.
