Pattaya, the 4th of December 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: To mark the 83rd birthday of HM The King on the 5th December, Mayor Ittiphol Khunpluem presided over a ceremony called “The longest Cake to honour His majesty the King on his Birthday” which had been organized by the Thailand Eastern seaboard Food and Beverage Association, Pattaya and Eastern Chef Club and the Pattaya Bakery Club.

Requests had previously been sent out to hotels and restaurants for donations of vanilla butter cake, measuring 40cm x 60cm and 10 cm high, with a topping of vanilla cream.

All 119 pieces of cake, received from 60 different organizations, were then placed together, making one huge cake 149 meters long. This was then cut into 5,999 pieces and sold for 39 baht per piece to raise money for charity, especially the local poor children.
