Arriving at the beach, the rescue team found some volunteers were trying to give first aid to the Chinese tourist victims, Mr. Hui Tai Fut (25) and Mrs. Liu Jing Jun (45) who were lying on their backs. Their bodies were pale and they were surrounding by their friends who had come with the same tour group.

The rescue team rushed the victims to Pattaya Memorial Hospita, but unfortunately, Mr. Hui Tai Fut died on the way to the hospital because he had been suffering from oxygen deficiency and excessive water ingestion ever since his ordeal in the sea.

According to Mr. Somgiat Junyawanich (56), the tourist guide in charge of taking care of this group of 21 Chinese tourists from Hong Kong, were staying in the Century Park Hotel on Central Pattaya Road. They checked in on 23 June and were staying for 2 nights.

At 9.00 am on 24th June, Mr. Somgiat, the tourist guide, took them to Koh Lan, where they had their lunch and then went swimming off Tawan beach. During their swim, Mrs. Liu Jing Jun who was not actually able to swim properly was using a rubber flotation device to support her in the water. Unexpectedly, the device flipped over, causing Mrs. Liu Jing Jun to sink under the water. Before sinking, however, she managed to cry for help and one of her party, Mr. Hui Tai Fut, jumped in and swam over to render assistance. Unfortunately, Mrs. Liu Jing Jun grasped onto her potential rescuer too hard and thrust him under the water, where he inhaled a considerable amount of water. They then both got into difficulties and had to be rescued.

Both victims were taken to hpspital, but sadly Mr. Hui Tai Fut died en route, while his companion is still alive, but in a critical condition.
