Honest Thai Returns Wallet to Grateful Korean

A 19-year-old Korean tourist who dropped his wallet in a Tesco restroom was lucky it was found by an honorable Thai marine who gave it to police. After rewarding the Thai soldier, the grateful Korean said he will tell his countrymen that Thailand has people with good hearts.

SATTAHIP – December 1, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: a lost wallet was returned to its relieved owner at the Sattahip police station, with several officers as ceremonial witnesses. The wallet’s owner was Mr. Jung Tae Huoun, age 19, from South Korea. He was accompanied by a Thai translator. He came to claim his wallet containing 5,600 baht cash and other documents.

The man who found the wallet was Serg. Maj. MC. Somrat Kitdee, age 44, from the Air and Coastal Defense Command. The soldier immediately turned in the wallet to Pol. Col. Chanapat Nawalak, director of Sattahip police, to be the intermediary to return the wallet to its owner.

At the police station, Mr. Jung Tae Huoun, thanked the marine sergeant. He also gave him some money as a reward. The Serg. Maj. Somrat said that he and his wife had been shopping at theTesco Sattahip, and when he went to the restroom, he saw a black wallet lying on the floor. He opened it and saw the cash, important documents, and a foreign ID card.

So the Thai marine took the wallet to the Sattahip police station, to find the owner and return it. He never thought of keeping someone else’s property, because honesty is the fundamental virtue of a Marine, he said.

Mr. Jung Tae Huoun said his school had finished for the semester, so he came to Thailand for a golfing vacation. He had been practicing golf that day at the Ratchanawee golf club in Plutaluang, Sattahip. After Mr. Jung finished practicing, he had stopped at the Tesco Sattahip.

When Mr. Jung returned to his room, he discovered that his wallet was missing. But he was contacted by the embassy, who informed him that someone had found his wallet.

Mr. Jung Tae Huoun is flattered by the kindness of the Thai people’s hearts. After this incident, he said he will tell it to all the Korean people when he returns home.
