Pattaya, 28 November 2010 (PDN) : At 1.00 pm on Sunday Pattaya Police Investigator Lieutenant Colonel Phatsa Detphakkun was notified that a tourist, Mr. Eduard Fuka [41], from Czechoslovakian, had dragged his luggage crying to the police station saying that he had left his belt bag in a taxi.

Mr. Fuka explained that he had taken a yellow-green taxi from the Bangkok airport to Pattaya. The taxi dropped him off at the entrance to Walking Street whereupon he started looking for a hotel.

It was only on reaching the hotel that he realized he had lost his belt bag containing 50,000 baht cash, credit cards, passport and other documents. Mr. Fuka suspected he may have left it in the taxi and then rushed to inform the police, who used the Pattaya Radio Center to try and trace the whereabouts of the taxi, whilst Mr. Fuka sat in tears at the police station.

Some 40 minutes later, the taxi driver, Mr. Sanphat Wongsawat [58] from Bangkok, turned up at the police station, where he delivered the bag, intact, to a very relieved Mr. Fuka. “Thai people are kind and very generous”, Mr. Fuka said and gave Mr. Wongsawat 2,000 baht as a reward.

Mr. Wongsawat stated that he had been a taxi driver for 6 years and on several occasions customers had left their possessions in the car. In each case he had managed to find the owner. He said he knows how upset he would feel if he lost his own possessions.

On this particular occasion, he was driving on his way back to Bangkok, when he discovered the bag when he stopped at a gas station. He returned to the place where he had dropped off Mr. Fuka and tried to find him at several hotels without success. He then went to the Police Station where he saw a very relieved Mr. Fuka.
