PATTAYA – September 23, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 6 a.m., a report of man being stabbed and severely injured at Pattaya beach was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Samran Khamwattana, investigation officer, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province. He rushed to the scene with a police team and the rescue officer of Sawangboribul foundation Pattaya. The incident occurred about 200 meters from the Pattaya police station at Moo 9, Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

At the scene, police found the injured Thai victim, lying face down on the ground. He had been stabbed in the stomach, causing his intestines to spill out, and was barely breathing. There were lot of beer bottles lying beside the victim, and also a lot of Thai and foreign tourists gawking at the victim. The rescue officers tried to assist the injured victim, but he died at the scene, and his body was sent him to hospital.

The victim identified as Mr. Boonmee Aroonsawat or nickname “Jack Soi 9,” age 35, address 247 Moo 7 Tambon Saengsawang, Amphur Nong Saeng, Udornthani province.

Mr. Boonmee was apparently among a gang of drunks who regularly wandered along the beach. Police questioned a witness, Mr. Saravuth Jankaew, age 23. He told police that after he finished work, he came to drink liquor on the beach with his friends and play football.

Then Mr. Boonmee and his friend, who ended up stabbing him, came up to ask to play football together. So Mr. Saravuth also bought beer for the two men to drink together. When they were later sitting and drinking the beer, Mr. Boonmee and his friend got into an argument about playing football. Then they began gambling. However, when the loser refused to pay the winner, the two drunk men began fighting.

Mr. Saravuth tried to stop them, but suddenly Mr. Boonmee was stabbed by the sharp metal object that looked like a knife, until he fell down to the ground. Then his trouble-making friend ran away along the beach. Mr. Saravuth and several bystanders chased him, but could not capture him.

Along the way, they passed soi 9, near where the Pattaya police station is located, so Mr. Saravuth rushed to notify the police. Mr. Saravuth didn’t know the name of the trouble maker, but he described him as being thin with curly hair, and had tattoos on both arms. Other witnesses told police that Mr. Boonmee was a wanderer with no place to live. He usually slept at Pattaya beach. He acted like a ruffian at the beach in the Soi 9 area, and he associated with people who were also drunks and wanderers, they said.

The troublemaker who killed Mr. Boonmee was his friend who hung out with him, but they got drunk and had a fight, so “Mr. Jack Soi 9” got stabbed and died. Police made notes for evidence and sent the corpse to perform an autopsy.

Police will follow up to inspect footage from the area CCTV in detail and question more witnesses. They will follow up to track down and arrest the troublemaker who escaped, and feel confident he will be arrested.
