Hit and Run Pick-Up Truck Driver Kills Motorcyclist

A pick-up truck driver who was over taking a motorcyclist at speed on a curve in the road collided with him causing him to lose control killing him instantly. The pick-up then fled the scene into a Military Camp.

SATTAHIP – September 30, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 2.30 a.m., Pol.Capt. Ekkachai Moonlee (Inquiry official on duty of Sattahip police station) was notified that there was an accident involving a pick-up truck which had collided with a motorbike killing the rider before fleeing the scene. The Incident occurred on Sukhumvit – Pattaya – Sattahip route, near a curve of Sattahip intersection (Pla Muek intersection), Moo 5 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province so he rushed to inspect at scene together with rescuers of Sawang Rojjana Tharmma Satharn Sattahip Foundation.


At the incident the officers found a white-red Scoopy Honda motorbike, license no. Ngor Sor Wor – 359 Chonburi, which had been severely damaged and nearby was the deceased identified as Petty Officer First Class Suwit Roongroj or PO1 Phueak, aged 41, who was from the Naval Special Warfare Group, Royal Thai Fleet.

Pol.Capt. Ekkachai Moonlee, (Inquiry official on duty who is responsible for this case) revealed that after incident occurred he had inspected the CCTV and found that vehicle involved may be a bronze Masda Piekare pick-up truck or a bronze Toyota Tiger pick-up truck because the CCTV footage was not clear. The footage showed that the pick-up had overshot the curve in the road while it was overtaking the deceased’s motorbike and hen collided with it causing the motorbike to lose control hitting the curb flipping it over killing the rider instantly. The pick-up truck driver then did a U Turn before fleeing the scene into Prince Chumphon Military Camp and disappeared. The police are now hunting the pick-up truck driver so he/she can be arrested and prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
