Heavy Rain & Negligent Driving Results in Fatal Accident

Negligent driving and heavy rain combined to cause the tragic death of a Thai woman in central Pattaya on Sunday. The accident occurred near the Carre Four Department Store on Central Pattaya Road.

Pattaya, the 4th of July 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 2:30am on Sunday, Major Pratiphat Phoomlee (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a fatal traffic accident near the Carre Four Department Store in Central Pattaya. A team of investigative officers and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were immediately dispatched to the incident to investigate.

Officers attending the scene discovered the deceased body of a female motorcyclists, now known to be Miss Jariya Techatraiphop [38], lying on the road. Medical examination revealed that Miss Techatraiphop had suffered a broken neck and had certainly died instantly on impact with the road. Nearby was the damaged remains of her Yamaha motorbike.

Miss Techatraiphop was known to be a receptionist at the Korean Karaoke Bar in Pattaya. She had apparently spent several years in Korea before returning to Thailand to live.

In close proximity to the accident, a bronze-blue Isuzu pickup was parked on the opposite side of the road with a damaged front end. The driver of the vehicle, Mr. Natthaphon Dangchaiyaphom [22], confronted officers to explain the situation.

Mr. Dangchaiyaphom confessed that he had been driving along Central Pattaya Road in heavy rain when he moved to overtake a slow moving Song Taew crossing the unbroken centerlines. Miss Techatraiphop was travelling at speed in the opposite direction, colliding with Mr. Dangchaiyaphoom’s pickup as he crossed into oncoming traffic.

Officers subsequently arrested Mr. Dangchaiyaphom who is expected to be charged with negligent driving occasioning death whilst the deceased body of Miss Techatraiphop has been sent to the Banglamung Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.
