Pattaya 15th April 2010 [Pattaya Daily News] At 4.00 pm, Police Lieutenant  Colonel Sumran Kumwattana, a Pattaya police investigator rushed to the Bali-Hai pier after being informed that a man had been found dead in his speedboat.

The rescue team accompanied by a team of police arrived at the scene where a single engine speedboat named “Pirom” had been hauled in from the sea and parked at the end of the pier.

The body of a 60 year old Thai man identified as Mr. Thonglor Yoomark, who resided at 113 Moo. 6 Nongprue, Banglamung, was lying face down on the bottom of the boat wearing a pair of brown shorts and a brown shirt. There were no signs of foul play. Police estimated he had been dead for approximately 1 hour prior to being found.

Witnesses told police that Mr. Yoomark had taken a group of Indonesian tourists from Koh Larn [Coral Island] returning them to the Montien hotel, Pattaya, before taking his boat back to base at the Bali-Hai pier. When his boat arrived at the pier, it suddenly stopped instead of moving onto a trailer to be taken back to the shore. His friends, the other boat drivers noticing Mr. Yoomark’s boat had stopped for an unusual length of time went out to see if he needed any assistance finding he had died on the boat.

The police assume the probably cause of death to be heat stroke making this the first heat-related death of this year in Pattaya. Mr. Yoomark’s body was sent for autopsy in order to ascertain the real cause of death.
