Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai reported on Thursday that the patient is under observation and quarantined from other patients at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital. Her laboratory test results from the Medical Sciences Department are expected Thursday afternoon.

Thailand confirmed on Tuesday the first two cases of H1N1 flu here discovered in patients who had travelled to Mexico.

Twenty five others who travelled on the same trip are being monitored by health authorities. Some have come to check their symptoms at the hospital. The public health minister however insisted that the concerned authorities have to observe the patient’s right not to reveal his or her personal information should they come forward.

Thailand is the first Southeast Asian country hit by the virus so far and registered as the 31st country worldwide to be affected, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will jointly hold a press conference on Thursday to brief the press and public on the influenza A situation in Thailand after the two recent cases were confirmed.

Concerned authorities will report disease control measures and coordination with embassies in the Kingdom in an attempt to build confidence over Thai operational measures to control the pandemic domestically.

On Friday, representatives from Thai Airways International and airports will be invited to discuss ways to adjust onboard practices and screening measures at the airports in a bid to prevent the possible outbreak of diseases which derive from international aviation. (TNA)
