CHONBURI – June 16, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 15.00 pm. Pol.Maj.Gen.Sanit Mahathaworn made a statement about the recent shooting. Mr Sombat Darnin an ex-volunteer police officer and Mr Wanlop Narai were driving when they came across a truck that was carrying labours who raced through a police checkpoint because they were afraid of being arrested. The truck broke through the checkpoint and crashed into a police car before fleeing the scene. Unfortunately the police couldn’t chase after them.

Mr Wanlop and Mr Sombat decided to chase after them and shouted at them to stop but the truck accelerated away. They then started shooting at the tyres of the car. Also as they were shooting they accidentally hit a Ms Mintra a 11 year old girl in the elbow as she innocently walked with her friends.
Mr.Sombat revealed that he didn’t know that he accidentally shot the kid so he didn’t stop his car. He carried on chasing the pick – up until it went out of their duty area and then decided to stop. Later they found out that the truck suffer a blow out and over turned and 2 were killed in the accident. Upon questioning the passengers in the pick- up they said that they were rushing back to meet friends in Aranyaprated before travelling back to Cambodia after they had heard a rumour that the police were clamping down on alien labours.

Pol.Maj.Gen.Sanit added that the rumour which had been widely spread had affected to the country stability because a neighbouring country had spread the rumour via the internet. Therefore Mr.Sombat wasn’t a villain because he was performing his duty. But was prosecuted for acting in a recklessly manner.
