At 3.30 pm, on the 28th August 2010, Pol.Lt.Col. Anuchet Kadsomboon, Pattaya police investigator, was notified that a foreign man had committed suicide in room no. 501/49, 5th floor of Jomtien Plaza, Jomtien Beach Road. The police team rushed to investigate with the rescue team.

At the scene, the police found the body of Mr. Brett James Wolfe [40] was lying on the bed. He was wearing a long sleeved white shirt and black pants. Nearly 30 tablets of white and purple medicine were found in a glass nest to his hand. His mouth was full of saliva. The police did not find any suspicious or foul play. In the room, they found a black back-pack which contained his clothes and his passport. On a table, they found a picture of him and his son was placed on it.  There was also a note saying “I love my son Michael”. The police kept them as evidence.

The police questioned Mrs. Pornnapa Weerakul Wattana [38], the building’s keeper. She said Mr. Brett James Wolfe had checked in on the 25th August, at around 12.00pm. She thought he was a tourist on holiday. When she asked him how long he wanted to stay for, he said he wanted to stay for 2-3 nights. He was not quite sure and he paid for one night when he checked in.

Late that afternoon, she intended to collect the rent from him. She knocked on his door and when there was no answer, she used a spare key to open the door and found Mr. Brett James Wolfe dead on the bed.

Pol.Col. Nuntawut Suwan La-ong, the Pattaya superintendent said, Mr. Brett James Wolfe must had been very upset after being divorced with his wife [from overseas] and travelled to Pattaya on holiday with his 4-year-old son. Unfortunately, his son had a tragic fall from a 10th floor balcony at the View Talay 2 Condominiums in Jomtien on Tuesday, the 24th August.

Mr. Wolfe’s body was sent for autopsy and the American embassy has been informed.
